Palgrave Macmillan journals on SpringerLink - FAQ

This FAQ has been compiled specifically for librarians, resource managers, institutional administrators and key-users.

General information

What is the Springer platform?

Springer has developed a proprietary content platform containing over 5.7 million research documents. There are two versions of the platform available, containing the same content but optimized for different users. SpringerLink has been designed specifically for academic researchers whereas Springer for R&D is for the corporate researcher. Both sites aim to provide a better user experience, helping your users to find the content they need easier and faster.

Is all of the Palgrave Macmillan journal content available on the Springer site?

All titles have migrated from Palgrave-journals.com except International Abstracts in Operations Research (IAOR) and the open access title Palgrave Communications. Both titles, which have unique functionality, will remain on the Palgrave-journals.com platform for the time being. The ability to manage and monitor all elements of an institution's site license to IAOR, including usage statistics, will remain in the Site license administration account.

If you have any queries about this please contact onlineservice@springernature.com

Were all of our entitlements carried over?

Yes! All of your subscriptions are available to access on the new platform. As of June 1, you can log in to your account to confirm your entitlements in the Admin Dashboard area of the new site. This is as a double-check to the controls already done by Springer Nature.
If you have any queries about your entitlements please contactonlineservice@springernature.com.

How do I log in as the administrator of my institution?

If you have an existing account as an administrator on the Springer platforms then you will automatically have your subscriptions matched and added to your Springer account and you may use your Springer Admin Dashboard login.
If you did not have a Springer administration account, then you will receive an activation email as your subscriptions are transferred and a new administration account is created. This email will be sent to the original contact for the Palgrave-journals. The email will provide instructions to create a password for your account. Once your account has been activated you will be able to login using the Login/Register link at top right of every page. Once logged in, one of your account options will be to view your Admin Dashboard.
If you have any questions about this process, please contactonlineservice@springernature.com.

What is the Admin Dashboard?

This is your area to manage your institutional account. From here you will be able to:

  • Administer one or more organizations
  • View your account details
  • View all packages of content purchased by your organization.
  • Drill down further into the packages and view a list of journals/books that are in each package.
  • Download usage statistics
  • Manage individuals’ association with your organization – associate or dissociate individual users, download a list of active members.
  • You can choose a single image to upload as your organization logo. This will appear at the top of every page throughout the site when users are recognized as part of your organization. It should be a valid file format (JPEG, GIF or PNG) and size (160 x 50 pixels). The maximum file size is 25kb. You can replace your logo at any time.
  • Manage settings such as automatic association of new users

What are “associated users” and how do I manage them?

Individuals who register for an account whilst within your organization’s registered IP ranges will automatically be associated with your organization and will therefore have remote access to any content that you have subscribed to. From your Admin Dashboard you will be able to manage these users and, if necessary, disassociate individuals who should not have access to the content. Alternatively, you can configure your account settings in the Admin Dashboard to manage all of these associations manually.

Can I manage my own IP addresses?

No, the new site will not support self-management of IP ranges. You will need to contact onlineservice@springernature.com if you require assistance with this.

Do I need to update my catalog?

URL redirects will be in effect for the foreseeable future. There is no need to change your catalog at this time. If you would like to make the changes to the new URLs, the easiest way is to pull a journal title list with the new URLs from the Admin Dashboard. If you need assistance with the Admin Dashboard we would be happy to help you.

Please contact our account development team.

We use link resolvers to access content. Were these updated?

Springer worked with third party services such as Serials Solutions to provide them with the information they need to ensure continued access.

Does the Springer platform support inbound linking from search engines and discovery services?

SpringerLink is compatible with OpenURL inbound linking and all inbound third party discovery and linking tools. SpringerLink supports DOI-based linking at book, chapter, and article level and for CrossRef citation linking. SpringerLink does not support library link out or Outbound OpenURL technology.
