Open access journals

Committed to open research, we offer researchers, institutions and their funders the world’s most significant open access portfolio.

We publish nearly 600 fully open access journals in all disciplines – from the life sciences to the humanities. Authors also have the option to publish their article under an open access licence in more than 1,900 of our subscription-based journals.

Our portfolio focuses on robust and insightful research, supporting the development of new areas of knowledge and making ideas and information accessible around the globe.

Across our publishing imprints there are leading multidisciplinary and community-focused journals that offer rigorous, high-impact open access. Many of our titles are also published in partnership with academic societies, enabling them to achieve their own open research ambitions.

Springer Nature offers an open access (OA) funding support service to make it easier for authors to discover and apply for article processing charge (APC) funding.

Not only will we be happy to help your researchers investigate potential OA funding sources, we can also advise on how to meet funder or institutional OA policy requirements when publishing in Springer Nature journals. You'll also find a list of organisations that provide OA funding, frequently asked questions about policy and funding, and a checklist to support authors at any stage in their publication process.
