Springer Nature's open access agreements

Springer Nature is committed to accelerating the adoption of open access (OA) publishing and open research techniques. Early and rapid access to research findings is fundamental to the advancement of science and discovery.

With the world’s most significant OA portfolio, our open access agreements offer innovative solutions for authors, their institutions and funders to support OA adoption. If your institution is part of one of these open access agreements, make sure your users and researchers know about this great opportunity and the benefits of publishing OA. On this page we have summarized the latest news and the most important information about each of Springer Nature's existing OA agreements. In addition, we have created a suite of promotional tools for institutions with an agreement to help them spread the word and support OA publishing at their organization.

  • About Read and Publish agreements

Read and Publish (Springer Compact) open access agreements are transformative agreements as supported by Plan S. They support the transition to a transparent and sustainable OA publishing environment by enabling partners to combine journal subscription access along with OA article processing charges (APCs). In addition to managing the cost and administration of OA, they offer authors an easy way to comply with funders’ OA requirements.

    • Researchers from participating institutions can publish their articles OA in more than 1,850 Springer hybrid journals, at no extra cost to them
    • Researchers also have access to the full text of agreed subscription content
    • Efficient OA workflows based on market needs: we continue to improve our workflows with feedback from our partners
