Springer Nature works continuously to respond to the needs of librarians and their users. One way we do this is by developing our platforms to be as supportive, responsive and innovative as possible.
The teams behind these developments work to bring you the best in scientific research anywhere and anytime across Springer Nature Link, nature.com and scientificamerican.com, and a central location to manage content on librarian.springernature.com.
Working towards a joined Springer Nature librarian portal
One of our goals is to provide the best possible online experience for librarians throughout the value chain from marketing and eCommerce to customer care and self service. The Product and Platform team is currently optimizing the end to end user journeys through different online touch points like the librarian marketing site, campaigns, librarian portal and metadata downloader.
“In the last few months we migrated the nature.com and Springer librarian portals to one joint Springer Nature portal. We are continuously improving and extending functionality of this portal.”
Jochen Ade, Senior Product Manager, Information Technology
Introducing shared features across all platforms
In order to give all Springer Nature platforms a common look and feel, we are introducing shared features across Springer Nature Link, nature.com and BMC. Our Product and Platform team is choosing the best features from every platform and implementing them across all sites.
The team has also been working on the consolidation of the journal article templates. All journal articles are currently being moved to a shared template based on the nature.com template, taking the best elements from Springer Nature Link and BMC. The Springer journals homepages are receiving a new design which is currently being tested in beta.
“Our aim is to build and operate a single platform with multiple branding faces, finding commonalities where they exist and supporting differences in character where they are important.”
Stephen Cornelius, Group Product Manager, Product and Platform Group
Migration to scientificamerican.com
Good news from the Scientific American product team, the migration of Scientific American from the nature.com platform to scientificamerican.com has been completed. Since then we have been working to improve the user experience, content discoverability which also includes improved metadata and an advanced search option.
“The goal going forward is to build on our learnings and continue to optimize the user experience on scientificamerican.com.”
John Murren, Product Manager, Scientific American Business Management
