The Nature Transformative Agreement in Germany

MPDL
-

Springer Nature and the Max Planck Digital Library (MPDL) have agreed an approach that will deliver the first ever Transformative Agreement (TA) for Nature and the Nature research journals. Building on the nationwide Projekt DEAL agreement concluded last January for Springer Nature journals, the commercial framework agreed with MPDL will now be offered to German institutions, in time for a January 2021 start.

The Nature Portfolio comprises best-in-kind publications, products and services that extend to meet the broad needs of the researcher and help them to fulfil their personal aspirations and those of the scientific community. With this Transformative Agreement, German authors will be able to make their best and most significant research immediately and openly accessible to all, with fees covered.

The transitional set-up of this agreement enables organizations to complete their Nature Portfolio easily by taking advantage of one predictable annual fee. This also covers all forthcoming Nature research journals and therefore provides institutions with full cost control over any new additions to their holdings. At the same time, institutions that sign up to this agreement will support their authors and admins by centrally organizing OA publishing fees for primary research articles in Nature and Nature research journals.

  • Eligible authors can publish their primary research articles, accepted for publication, gold OA in Naturethe leading international weekly journal of science first published in 1869 and in 32 original Nature research journals, published monthly, across the life, physical, clinical and social sciences.
  • All users affiliated with a participating institution will gain reading access to all Nature-branded subscription titles, including 21 Nature Reviews journals and all new launches. According to the terms of the contract, the access rights relate to all journal content from 2021-2024.
