2020 was a massive year by any scale. We have gathered highlights here so you can easily find the research that will drive your next discovery. We present articles, chapters, highly cited journals and new books reflecting the year in Chemistry. You can browse this page, or dive more deeply into our individual imprints.

A selection of 2020's highlighted research

Insights from the Editorial Team

Books Editorial Team, Chemistry

2020 has continued to demonstrate the truly interdisciplinary nature of chemistry as the central science with books covering topics from nanoparticle catalysis and MOF design to green and sustainable chemistry in industrial biotechnology and fluorescent imaging for medicinal chemistry.

As well as the latest findings from academia and industry, 2020 has also seen the publication of fantastic textbooks in established and emerging areas such as Chemistry of Renewables, Introduction to Crystallography and the 5th edition of the highly successful Structure Determination of Organic Compounds. While there are many notable highlights in the Chemistry books portfolio in 2020 we share just a small selection of these below.

Our Chemistry book portfolio continues to focus on communicating the innovative research of our distinguished authors and editors that both deepens fundamental understanding and also highlights the importance of chemistry in solving complex global challenges to achieve a better future.

We hope you enjoy browsing the selection of books from 2020 and if you are interested in writing your own book then please do get in touch!

Journals Editorial Team, Chemistry

No doubt the year 2020 qualifies for being classified as memorable, with COVID-19 standing out as one of the main reasons. Chemical research has contributed to addressing and overcoming the challenges posed by the pandemic. The development of therapeutics, vaccines, disinfectants, protective clothing and devices strongly relies on the findings of chemical sciences. Likewise, chemical research is required to progress on the agenda of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Therefore, it comes as no surprise that the number of journal articles related to the chemical sciences and published by Springer Nature continues to grow and exceeded 30,000 in 2020. We are grateful for all the editors and reviewers who – despite all the difficulties they were facing last year – made sure our publications are robust and stand up to scrutiny. A big thank you as well to all authors who entrusted us with publishing their research findings. Now we would like to invite the chemistry community to engage with our publications. While we have selected just very few articles as appetizers, please do browse our web pages to discover the breadth and depth of our chemistry journals, and all of the outstanding articles published under the Springer, Nature, and BMC imprints.
