The UN annually observes the International Day of Persons with Disabilities on December 3rd, to raise awareness of the benefits of their inclusion in every aspect of political, social, economic, and cultural life. Achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals necessitates reducing inequalities and ensuring no one is left behind (SDG 10), and so on this day the world celebrates the inclusion, diversity, and agency of persons with disabilities.
Research on disability issues is essential to promoting wider understanding of the unique challenges facing persons with disabilities, and to supporting the full realization of their rights and well-being. In honor of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities this year, Springer Nature editors have curated a selection of published works from various disciplines and themes, sharing insights into challenges and progress relating to disability.
