SDG15: Life on Land

SN SDG logo © Springer Nature 2019No matter where you are, the world’s population depends on sustainable uses of land and on conservation of natural environments and the protection of life within them. Human endeavors relate critically not only to future food production but also to health, freshwater availability, economic development and inequities, crime and corruption.

On this hub you’ll find essential, hand-picked research about all of these—and informed opinions too—drawn from across books, journals and magazines. Here you can witness how our researchers are changing the future one discovery at a time.

This month, in liaison with the World Environment Day, our featured topic on this website is ECOSYSTEM RESTORATION. You are invited to take a closer look at a selection of highlights from our books and journals in the field. If you are interested in publishing a book in Ecosystem Restoration read on for more invitation and how to get in touch with our Publishing Editors. Our journals welcome your submission, too.

Ready to show us your photographic talent?

Submit your images and the stories behind them for a chance to highlight your research, win prizes, and have your photography featured in the journal. Anyone affiliated with a research institution is eligible to enter up to one image to each of the following four categories:

  1. Research in action. Images that showcase ecological or environmental biology research or capture experiences of conducting studies and collecting data.
  2. Relationships in nature. Photos depicting symbiosis, including parasitism, plant-fungi relationships, plant-pollinator interactions, mimicry, mutualism, commensalism, cleaning symbiosis, and co-evolutionary relationships.
  3. Biodiversity under threat. Photos depicting threats or efforts to conserve biodiversity.
  4. Life close up. Photos displaying biology that is not often seen using close-up or macro photography.

SDG Series

Explore the latest releases in the SDG book series based around SDG15 below.

The SDG Series is Springer Nature’s inaugural cross-imprint book series that addresses and supports the United Nations’ seventeen Sustainable Development Goals. The Series is the first at Springer Nature to publish books under both the Springer and Palgrave Macmillan imprints, bringing the strengths of our imprints together.

The Series is organized into eighteen subseries: one subseries based around each of the seventeen respective Sustainable Development Goals, and an eighteenth subseries, “Connecting the Goals,” which serves as a home for volumes addressing multiple goals or studying the SDGs as a whole. Each subseries is guided by an expert Subseries Advisor with years or decades of experience studying and addressing core components of their respective Goal.
