SDG8: Decent Work and Economic Growth

Economic opportunity is a fundamental driver of human well-being: contributing productively to enterprises of all shapes and sizes; working under conditions of dignity and respect; and benefiting from access to goods and services.

Unfortunately for millions of people around the world—in developing and developed regions alike—access and opportunity are denied through institutional, cultural, social and political exclusion.

Without doubt, the COVID-19 pandemic has amplified economic inequalities, resulting in rampant unemployment, lack of available training and exploitative labor environments.

On the other hand, the profound adaptability of the human spirit seeks innovative solutions to such complex challenges, and we are already witnessing new business creation, facilitated by virtual collaboration and represented by an increasingly diverse workforce.

Publication across the programs and imprints of Springer Nature seeks to illuminate all aspects of economic activity from a variety of disciplines, perspectives and methodologies, with an aim to enhance practice and policy in ways that can ultimately provide greater and more inclusive opportunity.
