University of California, Berkeley open access books partnership agreement

Information for authors

If you’re affiliated with the University of California, Berkeley, you may be eligible to receive full open access (OA) funding when you publish your book, through the support of the library.

UC Berkeley Library has always been at the foreground of open research, creating sustainable and inclusive paths to OA publishing for UC Berkeley authors. Thanks to this OA book agreement, authors and editors affiliated with UC Berkeley may benefit from full OA funding of the book processing charges (BPC) when publishing their book OA with Springer Nature under an open licence CC BY 4.0. Funding is subject to approval from the library and editorial acceptance from Springer Nature.

The agreement covers all Springer Nature book imprints, ensuring your work is freely accessible and discoverable to all communities across science, technology, medicine and the humanities and social sciences. Your work will also be available to readers around the world via Springer Nature's content platform SpringerLink.

“For the past several years, through our Berkeley Research Impact Initiative, we have covered a significant portion of book processing charges for any open access book our authors publish, but this agreement with Springer Nature takes an even bigger leap forward. It will help yield important progress on our journey to advance knowledge by making more UC Berkeley-authored books open to the world. We’re equally thrilled to be pioneers among U.S. academic institutions in entering into this type of agreement with Springer Nature."

Jo Anne Newyear-Ramirez, UC Berkeley Library’s Associate University Librarian for Scholarly Resources
