In a time when common solutions are required to tackle major global crises, fragmentation and polarisation have become the new norm. This Political Science and International Studies eBook collection highlights the forces working with and against each other in contemporary society, and seeks to analyse the theories underpinning them as well as the processes and institutions which bring them to power.

This collection, launched in 2016, has grown over time to incorporate an increasingly global body of research from our editors based around the world which covers all the core areas of research as well as emerging areas of study such as technology and international security, gender and politics, transitional justice, and non-governmental activism.

By taking an innovative and interdisciplinary approach, the collection pushes readers to think critically about the modern world and to challenge the existing orthodoxies that define its institutions. For instance, the fast-growing programme in public policy and public administration seeks to bridge the divide between academic research and policy, encapsulated by the exciting new Palgrave Policy Essentials format. The collection also includes an increasing amount of scholarship focused on citizen participation, e-governance and e-democracy, and ground-breaking policies designed to address issues of inequality, climate change and migration.
