International Nurses Day is celebrated around the world every May 12, the anniversary of Florence Nightingale's birth. We commemorate this important day each year sharing inspiring nurse insights and free nursing content. The theme for the 2022 resource is Nurses: A Voice to Lead - Invest in Nursing and respect rights to secure global health in partnership with ICN. We serve the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goal for Good Health and Well-Being, which intends to “ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages.” This motto was central to the philosophy of Florence Nightingale, the British founder of nursing 200 years ago, who understood that the work of nurses and midwives shouldn't be limited to caring for people only during illness, but that it should enable people to live healthy lives and prevent illnesses when possible. This principle remains true now more than ever.
We are proud to support the nursing community with a global nursing and midwifery book program. Today we are honored to welcome Dr Michelle Acorn, ICN Chief Nurse, Dr Karen Walker, COINN President, Patricia Geraghty and Dr Sakiko Kanbara’s inspiring blogs and to share cutting-edge book chapters in free access. Let’s celebrate this very special day in appreciation and gratitude for nurses’ unwavering dedication in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. Feel free to share!
