The past year has seen the publication of numerous book chapters that are helping to understand the COVID-19 pandemic across all disciplines (starting from genomic sequencing to immune mechanisms to vaccine approaches right up to mainstream therapies). We have also taken important steps to develop a portfolio that is consistent with the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations. In the context of the crisis, we have maintained access to researchers and opened up our content as much as possible through various campaigns.

As we begin 2021, take a look back and reflect with a selection of the impactful work from over 60 research disciplines. Read and share the highly downloaded chapters for free until 31 March 2021. Open access content is freely available online on a permanent basis.

The Medicine and Life Sciences journals portfolio includes more than 950 peer-reviewed journals covering all aspects of research from the bench to the bedside to the biosphere. Our objective is to create journals that lead their respective fields by focusing on attracting quality content, launching the right journals at the right time, and building strong partnerships with our external editors and societies. MLS journals are branded BMC, Springer, Springer Nature, and SpringerOpen and are available on the BMC.com, Nature.com and Springer.com platforms. We leverage the best of hybrid-subscription and open access business models - to become one better business and lead in the transition to Open Research in a sustainable way. To that end, more than one-third of MLS titles are fully open access. The MLS team of 150 colleagues is based in 15 SN locations around the world.
