BMC has a leading portfolio of open access journals spanning global public health and health services, incorporating broad scope titles in the BMC Series including BMC Public Health and BMC Health Services Research, and more specialised titles such as Implementation Science, Environmental Health, Globalization and Health and Human Resources for Health.

In 2020, we have been living through the largest public health crisis in modern times, and our societies have had to adapt to the COVID-19 pandemic. This crisis has underscored the importance of public health research to help guide decision making to protect vulnerable populations and support health services around the world. At Springer Nature we have worked to encourage the early sharing of results in this area through preprints, and have worked closely with experts in the field to ensure that we maintain our standards of review whilst facilitating rapid publication of research in this field.

Next year will also see the launch of public health-related titles to the new ‘Discover’ series of journals at Springer Nature, further expanding our open access offerings to researchers in this field.
