Springer editors share their SDG content highlights

Springer is proud to publish titles in many of the topics and themes within the Sustainable Development Goals. Here we collate content that is relevant to SDGs 8 - in particular the elements of "decent work and economic growth" -and 10, which looks at reducing inequality within and among countries and improving social, economic and political inclusion.

The recently published Open Access book Paths to the Emerging State in Asia and Africa, part of the Emerging-Economy State and International Policy Studies book series, explains how a country incorporated into the peripheral world economy could make a transition to the emerging state capable of undertaking the task of economic development and industrialization.

The book Labor Income Share in Asia: Conceptual Issues and the Drivers by Gary Fields, Saumik Paul (Eds.), part of the ADB Institute Series on Development Economics book series provides a comprehensive and in-depth analysis of the drivers of the labor income share across a number of countries in Asia. It provides insight on the relationship between national income and personal income, and the relationship between wage inequality and wealth inequality.

The textbook Economic Growth And Development: A Dynamic Dual Economy Approach provides an introduction to the newer features of growth theory that are particularly useful in examining the issues of economic development. The authors augment the Solow model to include endogenous theories of saving, fertility, human capital, institutional arrangements, and policy formation, creating a single two-sector model of structural transformation. Revised and updated to include more exercises for guided self-study, as well as a technical appendix covering required mathematical topics beyond calculus, the second edition is appropriate for both upper undergraduate and graduate students studying development economics and macroeconomics.

Gender Inequalities in the Japanese Workplace and Employment: Theories and Empirical Evidence is the first book in English that clarifies why strong gender inequalities in the workplace persist in Japan, which currently ranks near the bottom among OECD nations in several indicators related to the progress of women in economic participation.

Economy and Social Inclusion: Creating a Society for All is an interdisciplinary book series that publishes works on theoretical, empirical, historical, and experimental analysis of issues related to economy and social inclusion and exclusion. In the summer of 2020, the series will publish three Open Access books on the Special Olympics and the development and employment of people with intellectual disability in China.

The book series Economic Studies in Inequality, Social Exclusion and Well-Being goes beyond the traditional economic concepts of consumption, income, and wealth to offer a broad, inclusive view of inequality and well-being. Topics covered in the series include, but are not limited to capabilities and inequalities; discrimination and segregation in the labor market; equality of opportunities; globalization and inequality and many more. Deprivation, Inequality and Polarization: Essays in Honour of Satya Ranjan Chakravarty offers a collection of original, state-of-the-art essays addressing various aspects of the economic analysis of inequality, deprivation, poverty measurement and social polarization, at both the theoretical and empirical level. Written by leading authorities in the fields of distributional analysis and normative economics, the respective chapters present detailed overviews of cutting-edge literature, as well as stand-alone research. The book honors Satya Ranjan Chakravarty’s lifetime contribution to the fields of normative economics and distributional analysis.

We are happy to consider research monographs, edited volumes, or textbooks with rigorous theoretical and empirical analysis. Please contact us to discuss the proposal process in more detail.
