Transformation in International Business: Emerging Markets and Emerging Market MNEs
Opportunities for Publications in the Book Series:Palgrave Studies of Internationalization in Emerging Markets
The contemporary dynamics in the development of the world economies has triggered an expanding interest of studies on the internationalisation of firms in general and the internationalisation of firms from emerging markets. Lately, multinational enterprises originating in emerging market economies, have expanded quickly and successfully in markets across the world.
Thus, the expansion of emerging market multinational enterprises (EMMNEs) has drawn much attention from scholars in the international business field. Meanwhile, the mainstream theories of firm internationalisation have been developed based on studies of firms from advanced nations highlighting an ongoing process of knowledge development in the processes of firm internationalisation. These theories have been found insufficient for clarifying the internationalisation specifics and strategies of firms from emerging markets. The international development of EMMNEs presents international business researchers with exciting prospects for further theoretical development of the international business field in relation to explanation of the contemporary specifics of the internationalisation of firms based on conceptual ana empirical studies of the internationalisation of EMMNEs.
While previously the effects of globalisation on the internationalisation processes of multinational enterprises have been in focus, in recent years, with certain departures from globalisation the theoretical basis for explaining firm internationalisation needs revising. Presently, the processes relating to firm internationalisation and the long-term impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic are calling for a different theoretic attitude to investing the new challenges and trends.
Analysing in more detail the particularities helping the advancement of emerging market nations and their firms, the book series Palgrave Studies of Internationalization in Emerging Markets aims to bring insights into the understanding on the current and future issues associated with the challenges and opportunities offered by the varying contexts of emerging markets. The current challenges, set by the atypical internationalisation of EMMNEs and the challenges set by COVID-19 are welcome contributions to the book series.
