Open Access Books

Springer Nature publishes open access books and chapters under its Springer, Palgrave Macmillan and Apress imprints. We helped to pioneer open access book publishing, first piloting open access publication for books in 2011.

We publish open access books across a wide range of areas in science, technology, medicine (STM), and humanities and social sciences (HSS). In 2020, we achieved the milestones of publishing our 1000th open access book and reaching 100 million chapter downloads across the whole portfolio.

Discoverability

Springer Nature is committed to the dissemination of information to discovery services for simple integration into library systems.

MARC records are available for open access books via the Metadata Downloader. We encourage libraries to catalog these titles so that researchers can easily access content.
