Technology changes society and environment since the onset of industrialization. Springer Engineering books accompany technological progress for about 170 years, with early authors such as Werner von Siemens and Rudolf Diesel. The huge and comprehensive Engineering eBook collection continues this tradition.

Its contemporary scope not only represents the entire classical areas of Mechanical, Electrical, and Civil Engineering in their widest sense. Much of its content reports the interdisciplinary applications between these areas and beyond their boundaries, as driven by the newest research results and innovations, e.g. in Communications, Biology and Medicine, or even Social Sciences. The collection caters to students by its rich set of textbooks, matching the diverse curricula of the different Engineering disciplines. Covid-19 led to an immense increase of book publications dealing with different aspects of the pandemic. One out of many examples in Engineering is “Mechanical Ventilation Amid the COVID-19 Pandemic” which contributes to the significant list of books in Bio-Engineering and Biomedical Engineering.

One focus of 2022 is microelectronics, represented by the “Springer Handbook of Semiconductor Devices”, an authoritative reference for professionals and researches. “Single Flux Quantum Integrated Circuit Design” describes cutting-edge research as a basis for large-scale computing systems. “Design Principles for Embedded Systems” with its concurrent hardware-software approach to appeals students from both sides, Computer Science and Engineering. Telecommunications, which is more and more connected to embedded controllers (Cyber-physical Systems/Internet of Things) is taking the next step described in “Enabling 6G Mobile Networks”. Industry 4.0 is associated with IoT.

Another aspect, though, is Augmented Reality for Virtual Design. The “Springer Handbook of Augmented Reality”, though, has a much wider scope as it describes many applications and intersections with emerging technologies, within and beyond industries. Mechanical Engineering is not neglected, though. The “Handbook of Thermal Management of Engines” describes the newest developments, while the textbook “Advanced Fluid Mechanics and Heat Transfer for Engineers and Scientists” is unique in treating both topics as one subject. The described handbooks, textbooks and professional books stand out of the collection, but original research in the form of monographs or conference proceedings build the bulk of the collection´s books. Lecture Notes series in Civil, Mechanical, and Electrical Engineering, as well as in many other interdisciplinary fields provide rapid communication of topical content from just recently held Engineering conferences.
